Yes, they do.because they ARE the only place in San Antonio that shows independent films. In response to a reviewers question below, "Do they think people will continue coming back because they are the only game in town?" Local art hangs on the walls, and you can purchase wine/beer/food during the movie. One of the only places in San Antonio that does. They have a great selection of independent and Oscar-worthy movies here. Easily my favorite in the San Antonio area. That is literally my only complaint.īut overall this theater has a great selection of interesting movies, is clean and never too crowded. However, I do wish they sold the Kernel Seasons popcorn seasonings, or just offered them.

I live about an 1.5 hrs west of San Antonio, and usually make at least one trip a week to see a new movie (or two).Īs for the food, not really my main concern so I didnt let that affect my rating. I just hope that they do enough business to stay open forever.

The theaters are surprisingly large, cool and have really good sound/picture quality.Īnother plus for me is the fact that it never seems to be too crowded, obvious reason being the movies that are shown there. This is a great theater for independent movies.
I come here weekly and after going to the Embassy or Palladium I was just disgusted by lack of care and attention Santikos gives it. Its not like we have a choice which theater we attend because most of your showings are just at the Bijou. I love the movies that you show but its hard to watch them in comfort. I feel that so many people like myself who appreciate film festivals and special engagements are what keeps this movie theatre alive. They are all worn and I usually go early because we have to switch a few times before we find one that is not really worn out.
They dont have to be the fancy reclining seats. They should use some money to put into new seating. They brag before the films about the millions of dollars Santikos gives to charities. Would love to see Bijou do something like that. Sometimes the movies were a disappointment.they were not all mainstream, big budget films.although some were. The catch was.you didnt know what the movie was going to be.It was a surprise! The trailers (some of them old) would hint to the theme or genre of the film and guests would have to guess what they were watching. You would pay matinee price in the evening to see a movie that was not yet released in the main theaters (maybe a week early or more). When I was living in Hamburg Germany, there was a little movie theater.not unlike the Bijou.that used to have Friday night "Sneaks". Honestly, I think it would be the perfect place to do the "Sneak" concept.
I love Santikos and I loved Wonderland Mall. I give this theatre a 1 star level just because theres no less rating than that, this was my first experience at this place, i had a situation, i bought my tickets online where they charged me even tho there was an error and the screen said to try again later cause something went wrong, and when i went to the actual building to talk and explained what happened the lady manager wasnt helpful at all, she didnt even try to log in on the system or anything, the other 2 guy managers were helpful but she seemed to be a store manager or something for the way she was dressed, unfortunately i dont know her name but was the only girl manager on the floor both times, when I left i said thank you and never looked at me or answer back, Im really disappointed cause this is the person is supposed to help and she made me left the place upset, NEVER GOING BACK THERE! This location has a lot to learn from other locations if they dont want to go broke given the fact that the theater was dead on a friday night! Restrooms were also not very well maintained and seats had popcorn remains. If they want to teach their employees sales tactics they can do so after everyone left in private so guest do not feel just like $$.

As we walked out that same lady had all her staff seated in front of her and she was lecturing on how to I repeat" made customers want more food". I understand why bringing outside food would be a problem but there are different ways to explain this to guest and stealing their drinks and yelling made everyone around them feel uncomfortable. In a loud voice she told them they can make their way out if they have any other outside food. One couple next to us brought an outside beverage then a woman who seemed to be a manager passed by and literaly snatched their unfinished drink. I have been to just about every Santikos location in the past and never had nearly as bad the experience as I did at Bijou.
